What is Capacity Planning?
The Capacity Planning can be found under the category Planning in the Waste Vision Suite. This page provides daily insight into:
The expected workload
Available shifts (drivers/vehicles)
Scheduled pickup assignments
This overview helps planners to optimally organize routes and prevent containers from unnecessarily becoming full.
What do you see on this page?
The display consists of a calendar with one column per day. For each day, you get insight into:
Number of clusters/containers eligible for pickup
The total number of containers eligible for emptying.Number of shifts
How many shifts are available and how many have already been scheduled.Capacity utilization (%)
What percentage of the available capacity has been scheduled.Shift time slot
For example: 07:00 – 16:15.Colored bars
Visualize the type of pickup assignment and provide a quick overview.
Fill Rate Target
At the top of the screen, you see the set fill rate target, for example 80%. This target determines when a container is considered ‘critical’.
Based on fill rate models, an expected fill level is calculated for each container.
Containers above the set target are automatically marked as critical and appear in the schedule for that day.
You can find the set target at the top right of the page, next to the Reset button.
Colors of the bars
The colors provide quick insight into the type of pickup assignment:
| Color | Meaning | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Orange | Critical | Containers that exceed the fill rate target. Must be emptied that day. |
| Purple | Scheduled / Manual | Containers that are scheduled: - Scheduled: via fixed collection days (e.g., every Wednesday) - Manual: manually scheduled by the planner |
| Blue | Non-Critical | Containers below the target, but still scheduled. For example: - For capacity filling (a truck with space for 50 stops, but only 40 critical) - To prevent issues on non-driving days (e.g., Sundays or holidays) |
Practical use
Smartly distribute workload
Schedule non-critical containers on quiet days to relieve peak days.Maximize capacity utilization
Fill available shifts with containers that are not yet critical but may fill up soon.Prevent exceedances
Anticipate days when no driving occurs (such as holidays) by planning ahead.
